Work and Family Life Balance – Corporate Theme in 2006

The Council advocates "Work and Family Life Balance" as its corporate theme in 2006, which stress on the significance of work-life balance towards the well being of an individual, families and the society. The working force of more than 3,000,000 people in Hong Kong contribute much time in work everyday which result in putting less quality time with their families. Employees are precious asset of an organization. An organization that shows how it cares for its employees and their families would enhance employees' morale and commitment towards their job. It can also strengthen employee's loyalty towards the organization as well as strengthen team spirit.

Employers can provide a much employee friendly working environment and help support the employees with more flexible ways of handling family affairs. For instance, five-day work; flexi-time; job-sharing; remote working / e-working; paternity leave, etc.

Employers can also consider supporting employees by organizing parent-child study groups; offering scholarship, practicum or summer job opportunities for children of employees; providing breastfeeding facilities at work, counseling services, etc.

Many social service organizations are offering assistance programmes to support employees' personal and family issues. The Council, and its more than 300 agency members, will invite more attention of the agenda from different sectors.
